CR Film Club Hosts Micro Drama Film Workshop for Young Creators in Chiang Rai

CR Film Club recently hosted the Micro Drama Film Workshop, an intensive one-day programme introducing participants to the creative process behind vertical series and Micro Drama production. The workshop took place on Friday, 3 July, at Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization School.

Designed as a space for learning and experimentation, the workshop brought together participants to explore how stories can be developed into short-form vertical series using accessible tools and a limited production timeframe.

The programme began with a storytelling session titled “เล่าเรื่องให้เป็น – Storytelling ในชีวิตจริง” (Storytelling in Real Life), led by guest speakers Snook and Pek. Drawing from their diverse professional backgrounds in data journalism, documentary filmmaking, and commercial video production, the speakers shared approaches to finding stories in everyday life and transforming them into engaging and creative narratives.

The second session was a masterclass titled “สั้น.. แต่ได้เรื่อง – รู้จัก Micro Drama” (Short but Meaningful: Understanding Micro Drama), led by Ped and a team of instructors from Supercat Studio. The session introduced participants to the characteristics of vertical series, including audience behaviour, viewing habits, and the storytelling strengths of the Micro Drama format.

In the afternoon, the seven participating teams moved into production. Each group was assigned one episode from the same seven-part story, allowing the completed works to connect as a continuous series. Working entirely with mobile phones, participants had to plan, shoot, and edit their episodes within a limited timeframe before presenting the completed works together.

The final session featured a collective screening followed by feedback from the instructors, giving participants an opportunity to reflect on their creative decisions and identify ways to further develop their work.

Throughout the day, the workshop highlighted the participants’ creativity, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and willingness to experiment with new forms of storytelling.

The workshop demonstrated that compelling storytelling does not necessarily require sophisticated equipment or large-scale production. It can begin with a strong idea, an understanding of the audience, and the willingness to simply start creating.

CR Film Club looks forward to continuing to create opportunities for young people and emerging creators to learn, experiment, and develop their voices through filmmaking.
