Itt Joins VIPA Pitching Project 2026 as Pitching Mentor

Thai independent filmmaker Itt Patiparn Boontarig, director of Solids by the Seashore, has joined VIPA Pitching Project 2026 as a pitching mentor, sharing his experience and approach to developing and presenting film projects.

During the programme, Itt encouraged participants to look beyond pitching as simply a way of explaining what their project is about. Instead, he emphasised that effective pitching is about building trust and convincing the listener that the filmmaker is the right person to tell the story.

“Pitching is about selling belief. Success comes from combining a good story with credibility. We should always remember that the person listening to us is simply another human being.”

Itt highlighted that a strong project alone may not be enough if the audience does not believe the filmmaker can bring it to completion. At the same time, experience and credentials cannot compensate for a project that lacks a compelling story.

He also encouraged participants to approach pitching as a form of human communication rather than simply presenting to judges, funders, or producers. A successful pitch should be clear, concise, and attentive to the person listening—helping them understand, connect with, and ultimately believe in the project.

It was a particular pleasure to present GHOST OF THE CURRENTS at the Hong Kong Pavilion, alongside our co-producer Charlie Fung.

Many thanks to the Department of Cultural Promotion (กรมส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรม), the selection committee, Raymond, and everyone who took the time to meet with us, exchange ideas, and reconnect during the festival.

Grateful for the support, conversations, and opportunities, and looking forward to continuing these collaborations as both projects move forward.

  • Solids by the Seashore Screens at Community Library in Nan, Highlighting the Growing Network of Alternative Cinema Spaces

Solids by the Seashore Screens at Community Library in Nan, Highlighting the Growing Network of Alternative Cinema Spaces

Thai filmmaker Itt Patiparn Boontarig recently brought Solids by the Seashore to Banban Nannan, a small community library in Nan Province that has become a gathering place for readers, artists, writers, and poets, and is now expanding its activities to include filmmakers and cinema audiences.

For independent and alternative films, reaching audiences outside major cities remains a significant challenge, particularly when films have limited theatrical releases. Community-led initiatives such as Banban Nannan’s screening programme offer an important alternative, allowing films to travel directly to audiences in smaller cities and local communities.

The screening was organised as part of “หนัง ๆ น่าน ๆ” (Nang Nang Naan Nan), with Itt invited as the programme’s first filmmaker guest. He expressed his appreciation to Natthapakan Khemkhao, Kru Tom, and Moke Chuepakdee for the invitation, as well as to audiences in Nan who attended the screening and took part in an open discussion in a warm and informal atmosphere.

So Long, Maesalong to Be Presented at Thai Pitch Program in Cannes

So Long, Maesalong, a new feature project by emerging Thai director Snook Thanakrit Duangmaneeporn, is currently in early development. The project marks Snook’s first fiction feature following his acclaimed documentary Breaking the Cycle.

Set in the northern Thai mountain town of Maesalong, the film explores a lesser-known side of the community through a deeply personal story with wider political and social resonance. It examines how larger systems and historical forces shape everyday lives, relationships, and human connections.

The project also marks the first feature film production role for Itt Patiparn Boontarig, who joins the project as producer.

So Long, Maesalong will be presented as part of the “Thai Pitch Program” at the Thai Pavilion in Cannes from 18–20 May. Industry professionals interested in meeting the team can request a meeting via thaipitchatcannes@gmail.com.

The team extends its gratitude to the Department of Cultural Promotion, and all committee members for their continued support and for providing the opportunity to present the project internationally.

  • Ghost of the Currents won the Barebones Award at the Q Cinema Project Market (QPM)!

Ghost of the Currents won the Barebones Award at the Q Cinema Project Market (QPM)!

Since post-production will play a crucial role in this film, we’re grateful for the support from Barebones. After many meetings, we have come to realize that the Philippines faces environmental and river-related issues similar to those in Thailand, which makes the story resonate even more and allows the concept to travel further.

We also would like to thank the Q Cinema Project Market. Attending this year allowed me to reconnect with old friends, meet lovely new ones, and have many fruitful meetings. We’re now ready to move forward to the next steps of developing this project.

  • Ghost of the Currents received two more awards at the DMZ Industry Documentary Pitch!

Ghost of the Currents received two more awards at the DMZ Industry Documentary Pitch!

These include the Excellence Award (10,000,000 KRW) and the Green Stories Award, which will take us to a film lab in Goa, India this November.

As a hybrid project that feels both new and challenging, we are grateful for every opportunity to share it in a lab or pitching forum. Through this journey, we’ve realized that pitching a hybrid film may be the most difficult kind of pitch, yet also one of the most rewarding to learn from.

We also received thoughtful feedback from people in the documentary industry that helped us see the path ahead more clearly and understand what we should be mindful of.

We are deeply grateful to our kind mentor Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan, the dedicated DMZ Docs team, and all the friends, old and new, who shared this journey with us.
